The Whiteshell area is located in southeastern Manitoba. The area is host to some of the biggest migrations of waterfowl in Manitoba. Due to the large number of lakes and rivers, waterfowl both reside here spring through fall and stopover on their fall migration. Many of the lakes I utilize have wild rice which attracts birds from all over.
Our hunts are dictated by the birds and the weather and are mainly over decoy spreads in and around wild rice and grain fields. We also have some great areas for hunters who prefer pass shooting or jump shooting from canoes. Portage hunts into more remote areas are also available!
The selection of birds here is diverse. Early season brings wood ducks, scaup, and ringnecks, mallards, red heads, canvasbacks, hooded mergansers, teal, widgeon and gadwalls. Later in the season, scaup, ringnecks, mallards, goldeneyes and buffleheads, as well as Canada geese throughout the season.
We also offer fishing with the hunt. Fishing at this time of the year is also fantastic with Walleye, Northern Pike, and Small Mouth Bass just waiting for your hook!
The price of hunts varies depending upon the type of hunt requested. Accommodations, meals, boats, decoys and canoes are all included. Licenses are available in Rennie. Hunters are asked to provide their own shot gun, hunting clothes, hip boots, warm pack-style boots, warm clothing, walking boots (for upland hunts), hat, mitts, camera, thermos, sleeping bag and shells - lots of shells! In Manitoba hunters are required to use steel shot when hunting waterfowl. Lead may still be used for upland hunting.
